In an effort to find out what the man with one red shoe knows, Cooper puts a tail on Richard, sparking a strange sequence of events which leaves the bike-riding violin player questioning his sanity. The story is that a crew of trained professionals mistakenly assume one thing and then grind that conclusion quite literally to death. One is that there are some genuine laughs involved, especially dealing with Hanks' playing doctor with the wife of James Belushi, the tympanist.
Richard remains completely oblivious to the plot until Maddy decides to thwart Cooper, and testifies in front of the Senate about the plot. Desperate to discover what Drew does Cooper and his team of agents start trailing Drew who with no clue of all of this going on around him continues to lead his normal life as a musician. But to do this, they need a stooge - someone that can draw Cooper's fangs and expose his treachery and the man they select at random is Richard Drew. We both start with the same problem. This has forced Richard to wear one business shoe and one red sneaker on his flight home. And mercifully, Hanks has fewer underpants scenes than he had in Turner and Hooch. I became an instant Thomas Newman fan Road to Perdition, The Green Mile, American Beauty, Finding Nemo among many others with this movie and was very disappointed that there was no soundtrack album available.
